Growing soybeans in the backyard

Soya is a rare guest in our country

For six years I have been growing soybeans of the ultra-early Zelenogradskaya-1 variety, which I received from the Tomsk region, on my land plot. Experience has proven that soybean cultivation significantly enriches our dinner table. Therefore, I think that it makes sense for both gardeners and gardeners to make friends with this culture. The biological composition of soy, according to leading scientists in the US, Japan and China, can cure cancer, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal diseases.

This annual plant is friendly with all cultures. And this variety has a growing season of 100 days. Outwardly, soybeans look like beans – the same stocky, erect stem, only with a hexagon and does not require supports.

In Russia, soybean cultivation has taken root only in the Far East and the Krasnodar Territory, although it ranks first among food products in terms of protein and fat content. It is officially recognized that of all agricultural crops cultivated on earth, soybeans are the most valuable. According to the UN, from one hundred of crops it gives 3 times more protein than high-quality winter wheat, and 1.5 times more than sunflower. Studies conducted at the Research Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences indicate that soy protein is easily digestible, highly valuable, fairly well balanced, in terms of amino acid composition, and biological value is comparable to the protein of milk, fish, and beef. However, unlike animal products, soy does not contain cholesterol. which makes it possible to recommend it to patients with metabolic disorders. Soybeans contain vitamin E, which prevents aging and provides protection from radiation exposure, as well as necessary for the normalization of the nervous system, vitamin B1, which strengthens the nervous system and carbohydrate metabolism, and magnesium, which improves metabolism. This is what interested me in this culture. For a long time I experienced a painful ailment from improper metabolism.

In 1992, I received a catalog of seeds from a Siberian, in which I found soybeans of this variety. And before that, he had already tested five varieties that he ordered from the Krasnodar Territory and the Far East. These varieties did not ripen in our conditions. Having immediately sent money for 30 pieces to Tomsk, after a certain time I received seeds of soybean variety Zelenogradskaya-1. The planting technology was simple, since growing various vegetables in Russia gave a certain experience. Cucumbers, tomatoes, gourds (watermelon, a hybrid of cucumber and melon), as well as potatoes are the best predecessors for soybeans. Since autumn, I fill the site with humus. The main tillage for soybeans is aimed at a more complete purification of the arable layer from the rudiments of weeds. In the spring I add20 gramsurea per sq. m, and tillage is aimed at suppressing weeds, as well as creating a favorable agrophysical state of the upper (0-6 cm) layer in order to obtain friendly shoots of soybeans. Harrowing and pre-sowing cultivation to the depth of seed placement (4-6 cm). After that, boarding begins.

For the first two years, he planted it with seedlings, which he prepared in the same way as ordinary garden crops. I planted seedlings in the soil when the soil temperature at a depth of 0-10 cm reached 10-12°C, according to the scheme 45 cm between rows, and in a row between plants 5 cm. It should be noted that the transplant tolerates well. For the last 4 years, I have been planting soybeans immediately in the ground to a depth6 cm taking into account the stable heating of the upper soil layer to 12-14°C.

For the first 3-6 weeks, soybeans grow slowly and compete poorly with weeds. Based on this, crop care includes: post-emergence harrowing, systematic loosening of the soil, weeding. And after sowing, rolling is mandatory. I watered only during flowering, the formation of beans and the pouring of seeds. Be sure to feed with infusion of mullein (1:10) during flowering. I was practically convinced that soybean shoots endure short-term frosts down to minus 2-4°C. Another feature – in mid-August, its powerful plants crushed the weeds.

Beans ripen to technical ripeness. As soon as the stem is left without leaves, I start cleaning. I cut it with a sickle, tie it with brooms and hang it in the attic, and after a month I start threshing. You can thresh during the entire winter period. You can hang the stems on the balcony. For soybean, I specifically allocate one bed (13×1), and also grow it with other crops: carrots, onions, garlic, strawberries, and even potatoes. This technology of growing soybeans in Russia gives an excellent result in any weather, the main thing is to comply with all conditions.

How to use it

We use green beans for cooking vegetable dishes, seedlings – as a salad. Grind the grain into flour in a coffee grinder and add to the dough when making pies. Cook in a pressure cooker for 30 minutes, but be sure to soak for 6 hours, rinse and peel. Boiled soy is an additional protein supplement for second courses, and soy broth is used for making soups and borscht. Pancakes with the addition of soy puree are very nutritious.

Soy is the most profitable crop. In addition, it leaves behind a significant amount of nitrogen in the soil. Therefore, for those crops that are sown after soybean, much less fertilizer can be applied. In nature, there are no equal crops that would compete with soy in nutritional value. Manufactured soy caviar replaces meat and is not inferior to black beluga caviar. Unfortunately, you can’t describe everything in newspaper lines. For those who show paternal concern for their health, it is advisable to take measures to ensure that soybeans take their rightful place in crop rotations. We must not forget the words of the Chinese sage: Medicine is food, and food is medicine.
