It would seem that there is nothing complicated in these rules. But even in farms these rules are not always observed, is it worth talking about ordinary summer residents? Let’s tell you more about this technology. Potatoes are placed on a flat area, the best predecessor of potatoes is winter rye, which will create optimal conditions for the growth of tubers. In the fall, the soil is plowed with a walk-behind tractor or dug manually to a depth of 25 cm.   • narrow beds save space and provide high yields for all vegetables.

Some vegetable growers, not only in the middle lane, but also in Siberia and the Urals, grow potatoes according to a simplified method – under hay or straw. This method is now becoming more common, its essence is as follows: sprouted potato tubers are laid out at an equal distance from each other on the soil surface. At the same time, they do not dig up the soil! After that, the entire area of ​​the potato beds is covered with a layer of straw, hay or other organic residues. The thickness of the cover layer should be 20-30 cm. At this point, all work on growing potatoes can be considered completed. Planting dates are determined by weather conditions, it is best to do this when the average daily temperature does not drop below 8-10 ° C. Watering, hilling and feeding the potatoes after planting are not required. Seedlings from under the straw layer appear a little later, than when using other technologies, but then they quickly rise, get stronger, and then close up in a dense carpet and bloom. During the summer drought and heat, the temperature under a layer of straw or hay does not rise above 20 ° C, which is the optimal temperature for potato growth. In addition, it is always humid under the straw and hay, even in the driest year.

In autumn, when the tops begin to dry out, the layer of straw is raised and clean potato tubers are harvested directly from the surface of the ground. Ripe tubers lie on the surface of the ground or are half buried in it. For harvesting, you do not need to use a shovel or a pitchfork, the tubers are easy to pick up by hand. Almost all gardeners who have tested this technique note that the yield with this growing method is much higher and of better quality than when using traditional technology. Calculations show that a plot of 10 m2 yields more than 5 buckets of potatoes, which is much more than the traditional cultivation method. Planting potatoes under hay or under straw is especially good for dry areas. In regions with warm winters, potatoes can be planted and at the end of winter, the layer of straw in this case needs to be increased to 50 cm,
